Opensource Metadata Framework - look at
http://www.ibiblio.org/osrt/omf/

Essentially, it is a markup language used for document metadata. In
that respect, it's like db. However, an omf file holds *only* the
metadata. omf is the format being used by the scrollkeeper project to
build a searchable document database, usable by multiple front-end
document browsers.
