Docbook is XML or SGML.
You can use Emacs' psgml mode to edit it, which is quite powerful. I
use Emacs on both Linux and Windows; see my notes on how to install it
on Windows at my home page. With the cygwin tools, Windows should be a
reasonable development box for docbook.
Docbook is a DTD of SGML or XML, as is HTML. Think of it as HTML on
steroids. :-) Of those you have here, I prefer Docbook.
