Hi,
I'm about to set up a documentation structure for
http://geotools.sourceforge.net and am looking for advice on which format to
use, and what tools are available.
Aims
====
* Have free tools that can be easilly installed and used, ideally WYSIWYG or
WYSIWYM, on both Windows and Linux. (We are developing Java and developers
use both operating systems).
* Use a standardised format.
* Need to be able to build html pages for final documentation.
Candidates:
==========
linuxdoc:
* lyx provides a free WYSIWYM editor for linux but I can't find a free
WYSIWYM editor for windows.
* sgmltools can build html pages on linux. Can sgmltools be ported to
windows?
docbook:
* I'm having problems finding a free WYSIWYM editor for both windows and
linux. Any suggestions?
Docbook is XML, so XML editors like netbeans are a good backup solution.
apache doc style:
* I don't know much about this. Is it a cut down set of docbook tags?
html:
* Not as powerful as docbook or linuxdoc, but a good backup solution with
plenty of WYSIWYG editors available for all platforms.
* html2sgml does a reasonable job of converting simple html to linuxdoc (with
a few minor bugs to clean up).

Any advice, or links to appropriate web pages would be much appreciated.
