The main problem of LDP is that we have too many stale documents and we
thus need more authors doing more work to fix this. But new authors
already have an editor or word processor that they currently use and
don't want to have to learn another one just to write for LDP. So I'm
proposing that a simple markup, like linuxdoc, should be encouraged and
that a small set of macros be available. Example of a macro: in vi when
I type ;s I get <sect1>. All my macros start with ; since that's an
easy key to type (your finger is already on it).

If they want to use OpenOffice, great. But one way to do this for the
case of linuxdoc, is to just provide a set of macros for it. I only use
7 macros, all one letter prefixed by ;. ;p is <p> and ;i is <item> For
rarely used tags, I just type them manually. For the "header" tags at
the start of the doc, I just use a template or copy them from another
doc. Some people will want to devise their own macros. It's easier to
remember something that you've invented yourself.

The advantage of all this is that one can use any editor/wordprocessor
that can edit text (which I think includes most all of them).
