Hi,
I have been using the Linux kernel's generic TUN/TAP interface for a
prorgram I'm writing. This interface is a virtual network interface
that corresponds with a file in /dev; that is, you can write to the
interface and ip packets or ethernet frames appear on /dev/net/tun,
and you can write packets/frames to /dev/net/tun and they appear on
the virtual network interface. Very useful for building VPN software.
Figuring out how to use this interface was excessively difficult, and
a big waste of time. There was *no* documentation *anywhere*, and
there seems to exist only one (very complex) piece of software (vtun)
that uses it.
I feel I have enough experience using this interface that I could
write a HOWTO. What do you all think?
Thanks,
Moshe
