Hello everybody,
Is anybody working on a "Compiling Howto" for users (I mean not for
programmers)? A howto to explain LD_LIBRARY_PATH, /etc/ld.so.conf , how (a
simple overview) the linker works and the program is loaded in memory, how
to cope with gcc error messages (like what does -lssl means in a gcc command
or what does the ld returned error 1 when it doesnt find a library), where
are the includes and what are they, something to answer the "Oh, its not
rpm, how do I compile it?"... and something that could show users the beauty
of compiling and the strength of it (being able to play with optimizations,
with the code, etc).
Well, there is a Software-Building-HOWTO, but it doesnt address many of the
theorical things. There is the Program Library HOWTO but is for programmers.
A friend an I would be delighted to write it. So what do you think?
Thanks in advance,
-- Diego.
