this is the most active thread that i've ever seen on this list,
so there is a big interest in the subject.
publishing it with the LDP will give it a very wide audience by
putting it on almost every Linux hard drive. that creates lots of
opportunity for people to use it for protection and just as much
opportunity to use it for destruction. but either way it will
increase education, if nothing else than making more people
aware that Linux viruses are possible. with the LDP's amount of
distribution it could take the lead in teaching the community that.
viruses can't be ignored forever. of course there will be
anxiety and fear involved with a virus document when people
are naive about Linux viruses.
if anyone thinks that the HOWTO isn't written 'appropriately'
then suppressing it is a bad way to find an author that will
write an 'appropriate' one. putting it on everyone's hard drive
will make people (and authors) come out of the wood work, just
like this thread has made people come out.
if it is inappropriate, than a LDP standard should be defined and
published so that someone can write an appropriate version.
publishing it will generate lots of email suggestions about the
virus HOWTO.
