It is unmaintained. It would be very nice to get the "blessing" of the
first maintainer, but since it has been dropped by him, afais you can
take it over even if he does not respond.
I don't recall whether he requested to no longer maintain it or
whether I just got mail bounced from him, but those are the only two
ways I mark a doc as unmaintained, so one of them must have happened.
