No there's nothing special about raid in that respect - there are however
several issues about partitioning block devices rather than layers and RAID
falls foul of this.
Essentially IIRC the kernel doesn't do partition detection on the block device
and it (md) has to trigger this manually from kernelspace at the right time.
Come over to linux-raid (low volume) and ask and I'll dig through the archives
and reply where Neil can correct me if need be.
